Black Sheep

Official Selection - Competition 2009 / Oveja negra / Mexico 2009

Arthur flags down a truck on the motorway during the night. In order to stop his weary driver from falling asleep in front of the wheel, he tells him a gripping story about two friends – shepherds – who decide to take their hapless fate into their own hands. A tale of courage, adventure, love and friendship, in which the characters are confronted with their dreams.

Black Sheep Black Sheep

Synopsis

Two young men, José and Kumbia, work at Don Leandro’s ranch herding sheep. But they’re sick of his bad treatment and so they think up a plan for turning their hapless future around. Perhaps they could steal the sheep and sell them at the Mexican-American border. But Leandro’s son Jeronimo is always at their heels, and he will do anything to make things tough for them. He knows that the loss of a single sheep would cost a shepherd his job. Years ago, the local priest brought eight-year-old José to the ranch and thought that the boys would become friends. But spoiled Jeronimo, who grew up without a mother, always treated José underhandedly despite the boy being his only friend. And when José finds a real friend in the similarly luckless Kumbia, Jeronimo’s malice overflows. On top of it all, María comes between Jeronimo and José, and the grandiose plan is threatened.... An "on the road” story (which a hitchhiker relates to a truck driver to keep him awake as they drive through the night) about the journey to the dreams that enrich us.
