Teenage Paparazzo

Special Events 2010 / Teenage Paparazzo / USA 2009

After meeting thirteen-year-old tabloid photographer Austin, the popular actor and director Adrian Grenier decided to turn the camera on the paparazzi, and filmed a multi-layered and dynamic documentary in which he attempts to understand the obsessed snapshot-hunters and find at least some kind of sense in the crazy world of celebrities.

Teenage Paparazzo Teenage Paparazzo

Synopsis

"Hello, my name is Adrian Grenier and I am a celebrity. Or at least I play one on TV. Literally.” This talented actor, who rose to fame in the successful television series Entourage, could never complain about a lack of attention from the media. He accepted the constant snapping of cameras as part of the world he inhabited, right up until the moment 13-year-old Austin pointed his camera at him. "And that was the turning point," Grenier continues. "After seeing a kid doing it, I decided to turn the cameras on the paparazzi, and through this boy try to understand them and make sense of this insane celebrity world." Grenier presents a remarkable probe into the obsession with fame and cult of the celebrity in the form of a multi-layers and dynamically structured documentary film that was first shown at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

About the director

Adrian Grenier

Adrian Grenier is an actor, musician, director and producer; he is a non-fiction, multimedia storyteller best known for his acting role in the Emmy-nominated HBO series, Entourage, which is currently in it’s sixth season. New Mexico born and NYC bred, Adrian was raised single-handedly by his mother, Karesse. In 2002, when Adrian embarked on a yearlong search for the father from which he was estranged for 18 years, he documented the journey. The result was a feature length film and his directorial debut, Shot in the Dark. As a vehicle to craft socially responsible human stories, Adrian founded Reckless Productions in 2002. In Karlovy Vary, Adrian will present the international premiere of his second feature length documentary, Teenage Paparazzo, a film focused on the complex relationship between celebrities and the media.
