Beyond the Walls Beyond the Walls

Synopsis

Paulo is a young piano player who lives with his girlfriend Anka, but their relationship isn’t all that solid. Then he meets a lonely bass player named Ilir and it’s love at first sight; soon the two young men move in together. When one day Paulo promises to love Ilir forever, the musician goes to a concert and never returns. Although this candid and authentic movie tells of a gay relationship, it is essentially about a love triangle in which gender seems not to matter much. Men and women experience uncertainty, betrayal, love, and envy in the same way. Belgian director David Lambert’s film debut makes good use of his screenwriting experience, relying on a well-built story and dialogue and excellent performances. The film’s intimate atmosphere is ushered in by the music of the Canadian group Valleys.
