Prince Avalanche

Horizons 2013 / Prince Avalanche / USA 2013

The protagonists of this independent comedy, which won a Silver Bear at this year’s Berlinale, are two young road workers who are fixing a fire-ravaged roadway in the middle of a Texas woodland. The two temperamentally different men fall into a trap of ill will and only gradually start to reach out to one another.… Starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch.

Prince Avalanche Prince Avalanche

Synopsis

Summer 1988, a Texas woodland. A couple of roadway workers are doing repairs on a seemingly endless stretch of road that was devastated by fire the previous year. In a desolate landscape, amid isolation and drudgery, far from their actual lives – such is the locus where two men of vastly different natures get buffeted by the storms of ill will. It will take time before mutual understanding grows between insecure and somewhat obtuse Alvin and his girlfriend’s withdrawn, contemplative brother Lance.… This tersely narrated tragicomedy is a remake of Icelandic director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson’s Either Way (Á annan veg, 2011), which was included in the Variety’s Ten Euro Directors to Watch at last year’s Karlovy Vary IFF. Writer-director David Gordon Green returns to his independent moviemaking roots in a feature starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch.
