Love Steaks

Forum of Independents - Competition 2013 / Love Steaks / Germany 2013

Luxury hotel. Luxury clientele. Irritable staff. A couple who might fall in love, or they might leave their relationship in its raw state – like the titular steaks. A gutsy film in which sauciness becomes a desirable quality.

Love Steaks Love Steaks

Synopsis

Clemens works as a masseur, Lara as a cook, but their clientele is the same: the guests of a luxury hotel. As sparks begin to fly between the two, his sensitivity clashes with her more fiery temperament - opposites attract, but harmony is nowhere in sight. Yet love can also be messy and blood a sign of devotion. This very clearly defined film, whose protagonists try to gain attention in strange ways, is consciously out of tune – just like the guitar that the main character tries to play. Sneeringly provocative and not afraid to show its protagonists in unflattering or embarrassing situations, the film leaves viewers with the unpleasant feeling one gets when someone makes fun of their weaknesses. Although this unbridled film was shot on the basis of a definitive script, it also employed improvisation and real hotel staff. It consciously explores the ridiculousness of human existence while demonstrating once and for all that it’s tough to prepare for life at hotel school.
