Little Secret

Czech Films 2012–2013 2013 / Strach / Czech Republic 2013

A short film by a noted director of commercials and the creator of several Karlovy Vary jingles, inspired by the recent case of a young man who blamed his serious injuries on an attack by a group of Roma. But before the truth could come out, actions that had been set in motion could no longer be halted.

Little Secret Little Secret

Synopsis

Tomáš remembers the time he was assaulted by a small group of Roma – so brutally that he ended up in hospital. Yet a short flashback suggests that the truth lies somewhere else entirely. His resigned mother clings so vehemently to her son’s first version of the story that she manages to spark a highly inauspicious chain of events. But these are founded on a dangerous lie that various people are keen to exploit, a fib that becomes a far greater nightmare for the boy than the original misadventure itself. The film, which draws on an extremely delicate narrative, stylistic eloquence and a powerful atmosphere, was inspired by one of the most hard-hitting media sensations in recent years.
