Synopsis

It’s 2009. Marko is a daydreaming barber with a head full of ideas (rarely realized) and a marriage on the rocks. Disappointed by life, Marko’s wife Ljubinka refuses to give him another chance and is determined to leave their dying town for good. Marko decides to make a last ditch effort to save his crumbling relationship. Desperate, he comes up with an absurd proposal for bringing life back to the comatose community, thereby impressing Ljubinka. His novel idea is to attract tourism by replacing the old communist monument with a statue of Michael Jackson. Somewhat surprisingly, he gets the locals on board but, unfortunately, Marko’s plans don’t sit well with the mayor.… In his bittersweet comedy about the adventures of a likable barber, Darko Lungulov stands somewhat aloof as he touches on a number of social problems; he also confirms his narrative skill and flair for creating an effective milieu, already demonstrated in his internationally successful debut Here and There.
