A garden party at a country villa unfolds at a leisurely pace, and bored waiter Paul would rather chat up his boss than serve the weary guests and listen to the band’s tired tunes. But monstrous mutated wasps arrive to take care of the evening’s entertainment: under the leadership of their insect mother they seek one goal – to take over the world!
Synopsis
This year, like every year, Mrs. Perch is planning a garden party at her remote and stately country villa. The family pharmaceutical business brings the acquisitive mother and her milquetoast son Sydney an enviable income, and their guests are exclusively made up of the by-now stale local upper crust, which includes Mayor Caruthers. But the relaxing idyll is interrupted by mutated wasps that have abandoned the surrounding meadowlands – thanks to Sydney’s experiments with fertilizer – in order to gatecrash the bash and assiduously implant their alien offspring into the aghast and aging gentlefolk. Slipshod waiter Paul, crushing hard on catering boss Julie, will have to protect the object of his lust from the mega-insect invasion and prove to himself and everyone else that he’s got what it takes. This nimble horror comedy, relishing every twist it throws at the genre, follows in the footsteps of Tremors, Eight Legged Freaks, and Attack the Block in its outlandish exaggeration. In the role of Caruthers, Lance Henriksen once again encounters his favorite xenomorphic darlings.

About the director
Benni Diez (b. 1979, Starnberg, Germany) began studies in visual effects and animation at Ludwigsburg’s Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in 2002. Even before graduating he got jobs doing postproduction on movies and commercials (e.g. Festina, Audi, Bosch, Snickers). In 2008-2011 he was in charge of the Cologne-based production company Kingz Entertainment, which created special effects for both commercials (e.g. Toshiba, Shell) and features (e.g. Trier’s Melancholia). Since 2011 he has worked on his own projects as director and VFX supervisor. Following the shorts Pressure Bolt (Druckbolzen – Forum of Independents, KVIFF 2003) and Kingz (2007), his feature debut as a director is Stung.
