Rick

Forum of Independents - Competition 2004 / Rick / USA 2003

The story of Rick, a cynical and merciless executive from the New York financial district; his teenage daughter Eve; his arrogant boss, who instead of working spends his time talking dirty in internet chat rooms; and a friend with a tempting proposal.

Rick

Synopsis

Rick (Bill Pullman) is a cynical, merciless executive in the marketing business, who works in New York’s financial district. He has not, however, always been like this. At one time he was the sort of guy you would probably really have liked. A devoted husband and loving father, he lived in a lavish Park Avenue apartment paid for by a high-powered corporate job. He had a sharp sense of humour and enjoyed a chilled, well-prepared martini. But the world has gone wrong for Rick. His wife is dead, and his teenage daughter Eve, on the verge of womanhood, has become distant. His job gets more and more degrading with each passing day: Duke, his boss, is a young aggressive punk who forces Rick to his knees – literally. Duke spends his time in internet chat rooms talking dirty, while Rick has to do the dirty work. And it seems that Rick can’t even have a martini in this town without getting cursed by an enemy...or hearing a sinister proposal from an old friend.
