The Continuation

Documentary Films - Competition 2004 / Prodolženije / Belarus 2004

A stream of archive shots flows into detailed images of mothers giving birth. There are scenes from the lives of families, mothers, and kids of past generations, from both countryside and city. The social and cultural setting may have changed but the girls, teens and women continue to fulfil their lots as mothers – beautiful and arduous.

The Continuation The Continuation

Synopsis

A visual celebration of motherhood: the guarantee of the continuation of the human race. Detailed shots of the suffering faces of women in labour and the kindly eyes of doctors mingle with a stream of archive documentary material. The film recalls happy moments for past and present families, childhood, men and women of various ages, girls, young women, and mothers old and new. Scenes flow by of villages in the past, of times of war and the varied sights of the metropolis. Time alters the appearance of civilization, only the painful joy of mothers is unchanging, like the helplessness of their newborns, their whimper and cry.
