I`ve Been Waiting So Long

Horizons 2004 / Une vie a t`attendre / France 2004

The atmosphere of contemporary Paris is the setting for the encounters of two women and one man. Both women love the man, but it is difficult for him to give each of them priority, and so it is more about bitterness, helplessness and disappointment than love.

I`ve Been Waiting So Long I`ve Been Waiting So Long

Synopsis

The director moves between melodrama and psychological study, in telling a story about a particular triangle between two women and one man. Alex seems to be a well-balanced forty-year-old who meticulously looks after the guests in his restaurant, as well as his mentally unstable younger brother. It seems he will finally marry the young woman Claire; but just as they are preparing their wedding, Jeanne arrives in Paris, Alex´s former love, and although they haven´t seen each other for 12 years, their feelings for each other flare up again. Jeanne maintains that her marriage was a mistake and bitterly regrets their breakup. The fragile Claire suffers from Alex´s infidelity and the evident signs of his alienation. The ground disappears from under Alex´s feet, every day he makes a different decision and is tormented by the awareness that he is wronging both women...
