Phoebe is top of her class, she’s inquisitive and really gets on her university classmates´ nerves. She has a list of “things to do” at college, but she forgets about the most important one – love. And when she finally does fall in love, there’s a catch. Her Fraser is only fourteen…
Synopsis
Even as a little girl, Phoebe was extremely curious, diligent, focused and thus considerably unbearable. Now she is studying at university, her life is divided into minutes and, before she finishes her course, she intends trying out all the activities on offer at the school. She strikes off one event after another and forces her room-mate Robyn to take part as well. The latter, however, has had just about enough of her friend’s attempts to get in on all the various acts. When she decides to embark upon an adventure with a young man she meets on an airplane, she points out acidly that Phoebe has forgotten one important thing on her list - love. Phoebe believes that she just needs a well-thought-out system to find herself a boyfriend, but this time life is having a cruel joke on her. You can´t apply calculations to love, and the amiable neighbour Fraser, who has captured the student´s heart, has only one thing wrong with him - he´s just fourteen...
About the director
Andrea Dorfman, Canadian scriptwriter and director, studied art and design in Nova Scotia and then worked as a camera assistant. She also wrote, directed and edited her own short experimental films. In 1998 she debuted with the medium-length film Swerve and immediately went on to make the documentary drama Nine – both were presented with the Most Promising New Director award at the Atlantic Film Festival and have been screened at other international festivals. She made her first feature-length film Parsley Days in 2000 which brought her several awards, including Best First Feature at the Sudbury Cinéfest festival in 2000. “Making Love That Boy was a wonderful experience with an extraordinary group of people. The film is a tribute to that time of life when, at twenty-one, you go from thinking that you know everything, to falling in love and discovering that you know nothing at all”, says Andrea Dorfman.
