Evolution Evolution

Synopsis

Thanks to one of Ivan Reitman’s spirited comedies a word has been added to the English language: ghostbusting. Now he’s come up with his own theory of evolution. After a meteor strikes the earth a new form of life is created and human beings suddenly know what it really means to fight for their lives. Dr. Ira Kane is the first to discover the aliens and their rapid evolution. He’s a scientist who once worked for the government but fell into disfavour and now makes a living teaching in Glan Canyon, Arizona. His friend and colleague Harry Block, who teaches geology and trains the women’s volleyball team, is definitely more interested in spiking than in science. At first, three boys try to save the world but it isn’t possible to keep such an incredible discovery quiet for long. Finally the government gets involved, represented by the beautiful epidemiologist Allison from the Centre for the Control and Prevention of Disasters. She doesn’t much respect Ira from the start but soon realises that if they don’t join forces the future looks doubtful for the human race.

About the director

Ivan Reitman (b. 1946, Komarno) has directed and produced a number of very successful comedies. His films have garnered $2.5 billion and have jump-started the successful careers of many actors. Bill Murray appeared in two of his early films and they got together once more in 1984 (along with Dan Akroyd, Sigourney Weaver and others) to shoot Ghostbusters, a smash box-office success. A no-less-successful sequel followed, Ghostbusters II, as did others including Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Junior, Legal Eagles, Father’s Day and Six Days Seven Nights. He has also produced many of his successful films. Ivan Reitman is currently co-head (with Tom Pollock) of The Montecito Picture Company.
