Archive of films Umbrella / Usan

South Korea
2000, 12 min

Section: New Korean Cinema
Year: 2001

A lyrical geometry of feelings in which three umbrellas divide and connect the two main characters. Indifference and sorrow are expressed through a perfectly concise form in which things represent an invisible spirit. And so rain and an accidentally broken pot of orchids can bring a hope inexpressible in words.

About the director

Yoo Chul Won (b. 1965) began focusing on film after university studies in Russian. In 1996-97 he was an assistant director. Three years later he debuted with Umbrella, receiving much deserved attention at the festival in Palm Springs.
