The Lost Object

Imagina 2017 / The Lost Object / Netherlands 2017

This fascinating experimental short deconstructs the fiction of cinema, but it also exposes the indivisibility of simulation and reality. The visually impressive work comments on the ideological basis of the film camera and artistic depiction, pointing to its existence and to the very act of creating a movie in a truly intriguing way.

The Lost Object

Synopsis

The interior of a film studio. The camera slowly approaches a prepared set, panning over the positioned objects, and then it suddenly begins capturing its own movements – it begins to reflect itself.

About the director

Sebastian Diaz Morales

Sebastian Diaz Morales (b. 1975, Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina) belongs to the new generation of Latin American visual artists. He divides his activities between his home town and Amsterdam. In his films he tends to interweave documentary elements with general reflections on the reinterpretation of reality. He has thus far shot more than 30 short films that have screened at the likes of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and at London’s Tate Modern. In 2009 he became the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.
