Police Beat

Forum of Independents - Competition 2005 / Police Beat / USA 2004

An unusual portrait of a new immigrant and his emotional responses to American life in a highly unconventional, almost experimental and poetic crime film.

Police Beat Police Beat

Synopsis

The film follows an African-born Seattle bicycle cop named “Z” on his beat for seven days and six nights. With his girlfriend on a camping trip with her male roommate, Z distractedly floats through his daily routine while an often bizarre world of crime (and criminals) whirls around him. Covering more than forty crimes, all of which are based on actual Seattle police reports, Police Beat is a highly unconventional, almost experimental crime film in which the protagonist is so preoccupied with his possibly unfaithful girlfriend that he hardly notices the world of crime that surrounds him. The individual crimes only mirror his turbulent state of mind. Despite a relatively low budget, the film features wonderful, poetic camera work and manages to incorporate nearly one hundred different locations and a cast from Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.
