Mon Ange

Another View 2005 / Mon ange / France 2004

“I’m looking for something I could dream about, but nothing comes to me”. A rapidly moving story about the slow emotional progression of two lonely people who are brought together by fate and who, at the end of their journey, find they can’t exist without each other.

Mon Ange Mon Ange

Synopsis

The life of the beautiful but lonely prostitute Colette changes unexpectedly when she receives an urgent phone call at night from one of her colleagues in the business who has just been released from prison. Colette has never seen this woman, but the unknown caller entrusts her with a task: she asks her to pick up her son and bring him to the station the following day. Colette doesn’t yet realise that the problems facing the charge entrusted to her soon become her problems as well... The role of Colette was written expressly for the actress who plays her, Vanessa Paradis (who appeared with Gérard Depardieu in Jean Becker’s Elise and with Jeanne Moreau and Jean Reno in Un amour de sorcière); she also appeared in a film based on Frydman’s screenplay, The Girl on the Bridge. “I feel that actors are much more important that the characters we think up for them. I found myself when I wrote this story for Vanessa, guided by her face, her voice and movements; perhaps she, in fact, dictated it to me?”

About the director

Serge Frydman

Serge Frydman loves films as much as he does books, and decided to become a screenwriter. He wrote the scripts for films by director Patrice Leconte: Grands ducs (1996), Une chance sur deux (1998), La fille sur le pont (1998, screened in competition at the KV IFF in 1999), Rue des Plaisirs (2002); in 2003 he wrote the screenplay for the comedy Taits-toi! (2003, dir. Francis Veber), which starred Jean Reno and Gérard Depardieu. He is also the director of the film Mon ange (2004).
