The Green Fog

Imagina 2018 / The Green Fog / USA 2017

Guy Maddin and collaborators Evan and Galen Johnson used hundreds of film and television clips to create a fascinating tribute to San Francisco and to what is perhaps the best known movie ever shot there: Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. And like that work, their film provides an obsessively erotic, topographic, and cinephilic experience.

The Green Fog The Green Fog

Synopsis

The international film festival in San Francisco approached Guy Maddin and his collaborators Evan and Galen Johnson about creating an urban cinematic symphony that would close the festival in gala fashion. The trio of distinctive artistic personalities met the task with the boldness and originality they are known for. Their picture uses hundreds of film and television clips to create a fascinating tribute to San Francisco and to what is perhaps the best known movie ever shot there: Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. And like that work, it provides an obsessively erotic, topographic, and cinephilic experience. The Kronos Quartet were invited to play Jacob Garchik’s accompanying film score.
