Cobain

Another View 2018 / Cobain / Netherlands, Belgium, Germany 2017

Bas Keizer excels as Cobain, a boy from a children’s home who works for the charismatic pimp Wickmayer. He takes care of the latter’s “merchandise” and, in his dealings with the prostitutes, he paradoxically finally finds his place in the world. Until the reappearance of his mother, who also used to walk the streets.

Cobain Cobain

Synopsis

“Who gets named after a guy who shot himself?” the film’s main character asks his new, adoptive family. But 15-year-old Cobain doesn’t even last a day with his substitute parents and runs off back to the streets where his mother Mia lives, a drug addict and now heavily pregnant. He finds work with her former pimp and decides to start looking after her, although Mia doesn’t want anything or anyone. But the new job requires a man, not a boy. Cobain will have to cast aside the last remnants of childhood naivety and find his footing in a criminal environment where there is no room for emotions. Or is there? This tale about the pressure to grow up too fast gave charismatic Bas Keizer his first acting opportunity.
