Special Events 2018 / Paterno / USA 2018

Al Pacino stars as the beloved coach, a legend of American football. The end of his incredibly successful career, however, was marred by a scandal involving the sexual abuse of boys: for years multiple accomplices looked the other way until Paterno’s colleague Jerry Sandusky was finally convicted. Celebrated filmmaker Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Wag the Dog) vividly transfers the case to the big screen.

Paterno Paterno

Synopsis

Al Pacino stars as the beloved coach, a legend of American college football. The close of his incredibly successful career, however, was marred by a scandal involving the sexual abuse of boys, which ultimately led to the conviction of Paterno’s colleague Jerry Sandusky. Apart from the eponymous protagonist, known to many as JoePa, the screenwriters also focused on 23-year-old Sara Ganim (Riley Keough), a reporter for the local paper The Patriot-News, who was the first to write about the case. This was November 2011 and, having just secured a historic victory, Paterno then saw his remarkable career come crashing down. The actual case, involving multiple accomplices who had looked the other way for years, has now been vividly transferred to the big screen by celebrated filmmaker Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Wag the Dog). The film will be shown as part of HBO Exclusive.
