Real Love

Another View 2019 / C'est ça l'amour / France 2018

When Mario’s wife leaves him, he is left to look after their two adolescent daughters by himself. While 14-year-old Frida blames her father for the break-up of their family, 17-year-old Niki just wants to leave home. A multi-layered drama about the fragility of human bonds which examines the possibility that loss emboldens us to discover who we really are. The picture won the Giornate degli Autori Director’s Award at the Venice IFF.

Real Love Real Love

Synopsis

In her first independently directed feature, French filmmaker Claire Burger chooses the family crisis as her theme. She examines what influence the departure of the mother has on the relationship between the father and their two adolescent daughters. Betraying both sensitivity and empathy, the film centres on faltering Mario, a man with a big heart, who has reached an emotionally challenging stage in his life as he discovers he suddenly doesn’t know how to give love, or to whom. While 14-year-old Frida retreats into her shell, blaming her father for the break-up of their family, 17-year-old Niki just wants to leave home. A multi-layered drama about the fragility of human bonds which examines the possibility that loss emboldens us to discover who we really are. The picture won the Giornate degli Autori Director’s Award at the Venice IFF.
