Monos

Another View 2019 / Monos / Colombia, Argentina, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Uruguay, USA 2018

A bizarre paramilitary unit is encamped among ruins on a hill, but their mission is as unclear as their view into the surrounding fog-shrouded jungle. One of the most remarkable Latin American films of the current festival season presents a formally jarring fable about the struggle for freedom, which in some parts of the world can simply mean survival.

Monos Monos

Synopsis

Eight young male and female soldiers are camped out in ruins shrouded in an impenetrable fog. Their mission is as unclear as their view into the surrounding jungle, and since their commanding officer rarely visits this forgotten corner of the Amazon, discipline begins to suffer. Unexpected orders from the Organization’s headquarters threaten to discombobulate this odd unit once and for all… Just when it seemed that Columbian cinema couldn’t find any new angles on guerilla warfare, along comes one of the most remarkable Latin American films of the current festival season, an audiovisually jarring fable about the struggle for freedom, which in some parts of the world can simply mean survival.
