Silent Days

East of the West - Competition 2019 / Hluché dni / Slovak Republic, Czech Republic 2019

The heroes of the four stories told in Silent Days all have their dreams and desires. But they also have something else in common: they live on the fringes of society in a private world closed off from the outside – even more so since they cannot hear… In a film partaking of both fiction and documentary, hearing-impaired Romany children move about in their own environment as director Pavol Pekarčík deftly textures little stories reflecting their inner lives.

Film is also part of the section People Next Door.

Silent Days Silent Days

Synopsis

Sandra is mad about football and would love to meet Ronaldinho, Marián loves watching trains; like these two youngsters, the other protagonists of the four stories told in Silent Days have their dreams and desires. But they have something else in common: they live on the fringes of society in a private world closed off from the outside – even more so since they cannot hear… Like his previous film Velvet Terrorists, which he co-directed, Pavol Pekarčík’s latest work treads the line between fiction and documentary. Hearing-impaired Romany children move about in their own environment, and Pekarčík deftly textures little stories reflecting the inner lives of young heroes. Film is also part of the section People Next Door.
