The Myth of Fingerprints

Special Events 2019 / The Myth of Fingerprints / USA 1997

Although they look like an ideal American family, it has been a long time since they last met at the same table. When four adult children visit their parents at their home in New England for the first time in years, you can be sure it will be no ordinary Thanksgiving.

The Myth of Fingerprints The Myth of Fingerprints

Synopsis

Bart Freundlich’s 1997 feature debut tells the story of a dysfunctional family that comes together for Thanksgiving at their New England home. For the adult children returning for the first time in three long years, their parents’ estrangement comes as an unpleasant surprise. They will have to reassess their place in the family and their relationships with their other siblings. This bittersweet comedy about complicated family ties relies on the synergy of outstanding actors, among whom Roy Scheider excels as the taciturn, alienated father, while Julianne Moore nails the role of the oldest daughter, Mia – a big-city snob who distains her family’s rural roots.
