Not only must Matje and his family deal with an unresolved trauma from the past, but they are also faced with the dilemma of whether to flee the city or remain in a radicalizing society in which the chasm between the chosen elite and those considered inferior continues to grow relentlessly. Dalibor Matanić’s dystopian film shows that sometimes faith alone is not enough to fight the evil around us and the demons within.
Synopsis
Not only must Matje and his family deal with an unresolved trauma from the past, but they are also faced with the dilemma of whether to flee the city or remain in a radicalizing society shaped by an ever increasing chasm between the chosen elite and those considered inferior. Renowned Croatian director Dalibor Matanić’s taut dystopian film – the second in his Trilogy of the Sun – shows that sometimes faith alone is not enough to fight the evil around us and the demons within. We must first come to terms with our dark past, and we must often fight for the light that we expect with the coming of dawn.
