Little Girl

People Next Door 2021 / Petite fille / France 2020

Ever since she was very little, 7-year-old Sasha has always felt like a girl inside, even though she was born in a boy’s body. She is growing up in a loving family, however, the outside world systematically questions her identity… In his documentary Sébastien Lifshitz submits a compelling commentary on the issue of gender identity while, at the same time, portraying with great tenderness the girl’s vibrant inner world, her family environment and her struggle to gain acceptance and understanding from the people around her.

Little Girl Little Girl

Synopsis

Ever since she was very little, 7-year-old Sasha has always felt like a girl inside, even though she was born in a boy’s body. She is growing up in an affectionate and caring family, surrounded by unconditional love and accepted by those closest to her. Yet the outside world, her school in particular, systematically questions her identity. The close-knit family thus has no choice but to attempt to defy the system… In his emotionally compelling documentary, French director Sébastien Lifshitz submits a persuasive commentary on the issue of gender identity while, at the same time, portraying with great tenderness the girl’s vibrant inner world, her family environment and her struggle to gain acceptance and understanding from the people around her.
