Rodrigo, a young father from a middle-class family, is slowly taking over the family business. His search for employees leads him to Carlos, the son of an acquaintance, who is also a young father, though he is struggling financially. The dynamic of their reserved friendship forms the basis for this character study reflecting the economic and social contrasts of contemporary Uruguay.
Synopsis
Rodrigo, a young father from a middle-class family, is slowly taking over the family business. His search for employees leads him to Carlos, the son of an acquaintance, who is also a young father, though he is struggling financially. From a class perspective, the two could not be more different, and yet the two men’s respect for and trust in one another gives rise to an unusual friendship. In fact, it is through the dynamics of their friendship that Manuel Nieto Zas’s third feature film looks at the economic and social contrasts of contemporary Uruguay. Among other things, this carefully constructed, symmetrical character study explores the humanity people are capable of showing others in tense situations, regardless of their background or social status.
