Synopsis
Renowned author Marianne Winckler plans to dedicate her new book to socially disadvantaged individuals in the north of France, who must contend with employment insecurity. In order to produce as authentic a book as possible she secretly takes a job as a cleaner. The more she delves into the world of hard, underpaid work, the more she learns not only about the lives of people living from paycheck to paycheck, but she also discovers what it is like to be socially invisible. Emmanuel Carrère’s working-class drama, which confronts viewers with several moral questions, is based on Florence Aubenas’s bestseller The Night Cleaner. The main role is played by the inimitable Juliette Binoche, who is joined by non-actors.
