Lynch/Oz

Out of the Past 2022 / Lynch/Oz / USA 2022

In his latest offering Alexandre O. Philippe (78/52 or Memory: The Origins of Alien), one of the industry’s greatest film aficionados and connoisseurs of cinematic history, focuses on the most original director of our times, David Lynch, and asks to what extent in his mystery-shrouded oeuvre he connects with the ultimate gem of American film production, The Wizard of Oz.

Lynch/Oz

Synopsis

Many filmmakers are avid movie aficionados themselves, yet few of them are able to convey their obsession and their astounding knowledge of film history in such an arresting and analytical way as Alexandre O. Philippe. In his latest offering he focuses on the most original director of our times, David Lynch, and asks to what extent in his mystery-shrouded oeuvre he connects with the ultimate gem of American film production The Wizard of Oz. In order to find the answer the director not only enlists the help of filmmakers David Lowery, John Waters and Rodney Ascher, or renowned film critic Amy Nicholson, but he also draws on the fascinating results of cinephilic research which has established the fact that the most popular American film fairy tale from 1939 is the most influential and most quoted movie ever made.
