Sonata

People Next Door 2022 / Sonata / Poland 2021

A tale about hope and the promise that it’s never too late to start again and make your dream come true, even if it seems out of reach. Everyone is convinced that 14-year-old Grzegorz is on the autistic spectrum – except his new assistant, who discovers he is suffering from a severe hearing impairment rather than autism. After proper treatment the boy enters a world that had been denied him for so long… A story based on real events.

Sonata Sonata

Synopsis

The family of 14-year-old Grzegorz has long since become reconciled to the fact that he is on the autistic spectrum. The diagnosis has been confirmed on various occasions, thus his parents question the suspicions of their son’s new assistant that the boy suffers from a severe hearing impairment rather than autism. They are all the more astonished when the doctor confirms this theory. After a successful operation Grzegorz receives an implant and gradually discovers a world that had been denied him for so long. What’s more, he can finally express in words his greatest dream: to play the piano and perform a concert in front of a huge audience… The leitmotif running through this fascinating tale, based on real events, is hope. The hope that Grzegorz never lost and which his family gradually found again.
