Forensic pathologist and anthropologist Cristina Cattaneo performs autopsies every day on nameless bodies, many of them of homeless people, sex workers, and others from the margins of society. But she also increasingly has to deal with the bodies of migrants washed up on Italy’s shores by the Mediterranean Sea. Determining their identity is all the more difficult since many travel without documents. This humanist documentary asks whether the dead have human rights and deserve dignity. With the growing number of anonymous bodies, however, it would seem that the only person asking this question is Cristina.
