Pregnant Itto is living the good life: a loving relationship with her husband, a large family home, growing assets. Perhaps her relationship with her mother-in-law could be a little warmer. One day, when she excuses herself from a visit to relatives and a storm bears down on the isolated house, strange things start to happen, a combination of coup d’etat, environmental disaster, and judgment day. Animalia is a unique amalgamation of sci-fi disaster film, road movie, and spiritual journey which naturally mixes a critique of Moroccan society with questions as to the meaning of life.
