Minnie and Moskowitz

Out of the Past 2023 / Minnie and Moskowitz / USA 1971

Minnie and Moskowitz

Synopsis

Seymour Moskowitz (Seymour Cassel), a long-haired parking attendant with an overgrown handlebar moustache, has just moved from New York to Los Angeles. Anxious beauty Minnie (Gena Rowlands) works as a curator for the local modern art museum and is involved in a degrading affair with a married man (John Cassavetes). She is rescued from a disastrous blind date by the elemental Seymour, who at length decides with unfeigned sincerity that Minnie is the one for him. A romantic comedy drama demonstrating that love declarations can also get heated, which Cassavetes himself dedicated "to all the people who didn’t marry the person they should have.” The roles of both protagonists’ mothers were performed with gusto by the actual mothers of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands.
