Are you what you eat? Of course you are! But don’t forget that how you eat is important as well. This is the message that Miss Novak (Mia Wasikowska) imparts on the young participants of her elective course in nutrition, through which she expands the students' horizons at a private high school. Her teaching method of “conscious eating” is unorthodox to say the least – and that is before her students learn that, after having ingested all her ideas, they can join the exclusive Club Zero. Jessica Hausner returned to Cannes with a dispassionately geometric film that incisively comments on man’s relationship to food – and the world. It is a brutal premise in a brutalist setting, tailor-made for the distinctive interior of the Hotel Thermal’s auditoriums.
