The Beast

Horizons 2024 / La Bête / France, Canada 2023

The Beast The Beast

Synopsis

Artificial intelligence controls people’s lives, and emotions are considered a threat. To rid herself of them, Gabrielle must purify her DNA by revisiting her past lives. Whether it is 1910, 2014, or her present year of 2044, she always crosses paths with Louis and is filled with a sense of impending doom. Bertrand Bonello’s visionary work of science fiction, based loosely on a short story by Henry James, is a tale of magnetic attraction across time and space, the fear of loving, and the dystopian future that today’s world is hurtling toward. Léa Seydoux and George MacKay bring a unique chemistry to the screen, as flammable as celluloid and as unnerving as the smiles of blue-eyed dolls.
