In a world where a surprise lurks behind every climbing plant, not only animals go into hibernation, but humans do as well. Yet waking up from it prematurely can have tragic consequences. This Berlinale prize-winning debut contemplatively follows a community of people, whose hibernation might constitute a mere anachronism, which nevertheless brings necessary tranquillity to the life of the collective. This magical and exceptionally focused picture highlights the enchantment of the most ordinary of activities, and touches on truly elementary principles of our existence. We find the characters in this imaginative, mystical piece engaged in a perpetual process of searching, while we, too, find ourselves assuming the role of researchers in what is an extremely organic and sensuous film.
