Horizons / April / Georgia, France, Italy 2024
When an infant dies during birth, doctor Nina finds herself subject to an inquiry by the hospital. She nevertheless continues to help village women who want to terminate their pregnancies, which is a serious crime in Georgia. Dea Kulumbegashvili’s second film depicts the clash of many worlds through images that stay with us long after the lights come back up. Like Nina, we wonder whether we are watching reality, a dream… or a nightmare. This mature work of cinema won the Special Jury Prize at last year’s Venice Film Festival, where it also attracted much critical acclaim.
