Out of the Past / The Texas Chainsaw Massacre / USA 1974
A group of young people set out into the Texas countryside. The sun is scorching, the air heavy, and in an abandoned house somebody is waiting who won’t ask you your name – only how fast you can run… When Tobe Hooper unleashed his low-budget horror on the world in 1974, nobody could have guessed that they were witnessing the birth of one of the greatest cult films of all time. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre gave us the iconic Leatherface, a character whose raw brutality and quiet anger has gotten under the skin of multiple generations of moviegoers. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the film was one of the most popular titles on VHS – played, banned, copied, adored. It is a film that does not age. It only rots. And we keep watching.
