Imagina / Taqsim / Lebanon, Palestine, Canada 2025
Newsreels, recruitment programmes and propaganda films, in combination with commentary from Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Here, images and words are separated by almost a century in some cases, nevertheless, this conceptual film compilation by anthropologist Diana Allan clearly addresses today’s situation. Shot on 16mm, archive footage of Palestine under British colonial administration encounters the recollections, commentaries and, above all, the songs of recently displaced people; the tragedy of their fate is further underscored by an unpleasant soundscape. Thanks to the concentrated form, the stories of forcible separation acquire a voice they should no longer have been granted.
