Lucia is a shy sixteen-year-old girl growing up under the watchful eye of her mother. During a Catholic choir summer retreat, however, she crosses paths with the fiery Ana Maria and a dark-eyed restoration worker. Nature is in full bloom, the scent of rose blossoms wafts through the air, and Lucia discovers the previously unknown language of her body. But are these new feelings at odds with her chastity and her naively pure faith? The intense imagery of Urška Djukić’s debut feature recalls the films of Céline Sciamma and her sensual and imaginative style mixes Christian symbolism with pure physicality, but hers is a distinctive cinematic language that tastes the grapes of our sins. Are they really so sour, or is there something sweet to them as well?
