Horizons / Drømmer / Norway 2024
Johanna is seventeen and is in love for the first time, although it is a platonic love for her teacher. She confides her feelings, which range from excitement and intoxication to confusion and frustration, to her diary – but the book then falls into the hands of her mother and grandmother. Founded on open dialogues about the characters’ intimate lives, the latest installment in Dag Johan Haugerud’s relationship trilogy won the Golden Bear for Best Film at this year’s Berlinale. With this film, Haugerud again shows that the strength of his work lies both in his ability to create realistic characters and in his use of evocative written and cinematic language.
