A film about the all-consuming experience of mourning. Benedict Cumberbatch plays a recently widowed man who, besides falling apart under the weight of his grief, must contend with the feelings of his two young sons who have just lost their mother. The dark silhouette of a crow – that symbol of pain and the incomprehensible – stalks their home as a reminder of a loss that cannot be ignored. The only way forward is straight ahead. Director Dylan Southern transforms the source material into a raw, poetic portrait of grief that is profound, personal, and terrifyingly universal. The Thing with Feathers has already been screened at Sundance and the Berlinale.
