It’s the year 1872 and the Emperor of Brazil is travelling to Portugal. His comfort will be assured by Maria Henriqueta de Mello Lemos e Alvelos, owner of the grand hotel, whose portrait, however, is absent from the documentation relating to the emperor’s visit. Unlike the letters which gradually reveal the negative aspects of the whole expedition. With the aid of contemporary shots filmed on 8mm, this enchanting short piece allows us the chance to experience this place, with its tangible air of romance, but also to appreciate the dramatic story unfolding in higher social circles. Flawless emotional archaeology.
