Horizons / Christy / Ireland, United Kingdom 2025
Young Christy is thrown out of his group home after getting into a fight. While looking for a new place, he finds shelter with his brother, his brother’s girlfriend, and their young child in a rough part of the Irish town of Cork. In his feature film debut, which premiered at the Berlinale, director Brendan Canty shows that flashes of light can be found even in the shadows of the city and the human soul. Christy is an honest, visually compelling drama about fragile ties, sibling loyalty, and the ability to find a home even where one might not expect it. It is an unassumingly powerful film with characters capable of making the most with very little.
