Synopsis

This low-budget film, today a cult classic, is a clever, playful, and cynical postmodern tale and a timeless commentary on the phenomenon of true crime and serial murderers. Shot by three Belgian film students, its style imitating the documentary methods of cinéma verité was a perfect fit for its shocking concept: a group of filmmakers shooting a documentary about a narcissistic killer. The nihilistic, confrontational, and brutally ironic Man Bites Dog caused a scandal in its time. Its central theme of media ethics is typical for the 1990s, but the directors’ approach has lost none of its provocative edge.
