A picturesque coastline, cute animals – yet seen in the context of a contemporary world which no longer offers so much beauty. In their latest film writing/directing duo Poggi–Vinel once again combine surprising aesthetics and moods, and it’s this unusual disconnection which makes their work so exceptional, convincing and provocative. A monkey with a piercing and a penguin with homicidal tendencies underline the fact that loudness and softness aren’t necessarily in contradiction with one another. And the same applies to laughter and sorrow. It’s high time to catapult ourselves into the real world.
