Future Frames: Generation NEXT of European Cinema / Mereneläviä / Finland 2024
Most people are convinced that fish spend their entire lives never making a single sound. But what about those whose journey has ended in a fishing net and who now lie in the refrigerated section of your local supermarket? Everybody deserves to speak at least once in their lives – to sing, even. An elegy to beings waiting for their customers just before closing time, Finnish director Veera Lamminpää’s charming stop-motion animation asks fundamental questions of life: Can an individual’s value be measured in price per kilogram? And do we truly have to swim against the stream?
