Tireless and implacable critic of contemporary Israel Nadav Lapid is back with the explosive Yes, which this year was shown in the Cannes film festival’s Quinzaine des cinéastes section. Musician Y. divides his time between everyday family life and wild parties at which he and his wife earn a living performing degrading acts for Israel’s rich elite. One day, however, Y. is asked to compose a new national anthem. All this against the backdrop of the shocking events of October 7, 2023. Nadav Lapid knows no compromise. He throws his protagonists into frantic, twisted, and opulent situations, unafraid to turn them into caricatures in order to emphasize his view of a controversial situation in a controversial country.
