Out of the Past / Každý mladý muž / Czechoslovakia 1965
Every Young Man follows the everyday life and dreams of young men serving in the socialist army. Premiered sixty years ago, this film remains poignantly relevant in today’s haphazard world. Its absurdist tone had critics wondering: was this a “politically correct” story or a smartly veiled anti-militaristic message? Applying contradictory points of view from opposing sides, the film is an intellectual provocation to engage in discussions on sensitive themes. FIPRESCI awarded the work at the Karlovy Vary IFF in 1966 and, to mark the Federation’s 100th anniversary, Every Young Man is returning to the big screen to challenge contemporary audiences as well.
