Synopsis

It isn’t often that a film, when screened at the very beginning of the Cannes Film Festival, ends up being debated throughout the festival. But Sound of Falling is one of the cinematic events of the year, a film that isn’t afraid of its own ambitions and offers an uncompromising and innovative vision. At the center of the story are a farm in eastern Germany and the loosely intertwined lives of four generations of women, spread out over an entire century. A dark chronicle, a living nightmare, and a stylish polished obsidian taken from the hellscape of the twentieth century, the film explores warped desires, generational traumas, patriarchal rule, and the sad events of modern history, which tear the human soul like a roaring combine shreds the ears of grain.
